Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library aims to develop a love of reading in pre-school aged children by
providing them with a free, high quality, age-appropriate book, in the mail every month until their 5th
birthday.

It particularly benefits children in low socio-economic and disadvantaged communities, indigenous
children, and children with non-English speaking backgrounds, helping them develop the language,
literacy, and personal skills they need to start school confident and ready to learn.

Begun in 2014, the Imagination Library Illawarra project is managed by Illawarra’s Rotary clubs in
association with license holder United Way Australia and funded by Illawarra’s Rotary clubs,
donations from businesses and individuals, and grants when available and received.

Our community partners offer the program to the families of babies and children of any age from
birth whom they feel will benefit from it.

In the 10 years to date, our Imagination Library Illawarra project gifted more than 23,900
books to approx. 1,000 children and their families.

We would like to share the below quote from an Imagination Library parent:

“Thank you so much for allowing my daughter and I the opportunity to read more books together, not only is it good for her education but it allows us to bond over the books and we relate to parts of the book with different things in life.”
